Season by season, Miss Gladys Sym Choon owners were developing the razak label.  When it came time to market his next spring/summer collection nationally, a stall was booked at Sydney Fashion Week, and we set about making a memorable catalogue to promote their visit.

The first spring/summer catalogue exclusively promoted the razak label using images by award-winning photographer Robin Sellick and printing by the highly awarded Finsbury Press. I designed and managed the production. With Robin’s fantastic photography, the catalogue shone brightly on alternate pages courtesy of the wine label paper stock used for the internal pages. This wine label stock was ultra high gloss on one side and uncoated textured paper on the reverse, requiring my rigorous press checking to management an even print quality. Not only did the catalogue win clients from further afield at fashion week, it was in the running to win a National Print Award.

After the success of their first season catalogue, the owners were familiar with designing and producing a fashion range and preparing promotions for an interstate expo. As is often the case with creative enterprises however, the final design and print phase absorbs all the time impacts from an already tight schedule. Fortunately, refining their processes and engaging the beautiful photography of Claudio Raschella kept the process on schedule. His images were elegantly applied in the catalogue design then printed and packed for the razak label’s second showing at Sydney Fashion Week.

Over previous seasons, Miss Gladys Sym Choon owner’s not only created a new label, but had also picked up another label to represent in the coming season’s catalogue. While exciting in and of itself, the changes would clearly impact the final design and print phases. This played out while I was busy receiving images from multiple sources to be briskly designed, printed and packed for delivery. Fortunately, this time around I had read the zeitgeist and I simplified proceedings by using emerging digital print technology to produce the catalogues. In the end, this catalogue not only won new sales for the labels razak, milk and mitzi, but went on to win a gold medal at the National Print Awards.
